FarmLinks at Pursell Farms - Sylacauga, AL
Sometimes the best golf trips aren’t the ones planned months in advance, but the ones that weave themselves into the fabric of another occasion. I was in Auburn this past weekend to celebrate some dear friends of the brand, Ashlyn Aaron (Payne) and Cameron Aaron for their wedding, and the timing lined up just right for a little golf along the way. On Friday, I stopped at The Fields Club in LaGrange—a course I have written about before here, and will be doing a revisit post as well—before making the drive up to Sylacauga on Saturday morning. From Auburn, it’s an hour and a half to FarmLinks at Pursell Farms, and the rolling Alabama countryside makes the ride itself feel like part of the experience.
I first visited FarmLinks some time ago and wrote about one of my many trips here. Revisiting some courses can be a bit of a gamble: will the memory match reality, or has nostalgia done too much heavy lifting? I’m pleased to say that FarmLinks does not just meet expectations—it exceeds them every time.
Even in late summer, when many southern courses show the wear of long, hot days, the conditioning was impeccable. The fairways were vibrant and tightly mown, the roughs consistent, and the greens rolled with that rare combination of true pace and receptive softness. FarmLinks continues to feel like a showcase, where agronomy, design, and hospitality are all in sync.
One of the surprises this time was a fresh fleet of matte green golf carts with quilted leather seats. It may seem like a small detail, but it’s emblematic of what Pursell Farms does so well: marrying comfort and style with substance. The carts aren’t just transportation—they’re part of the atmosphere, part of the brand.
As I made my way around the course again, what struck me most was how FarmLinks manages to balance being a destination with being welcoming. There’s no pretension here, only pride—and it shows in every blade of grass and every touch of hospitality.
If my first visit was about discovery, this return was about affirmation. FarmLinks is not a course you visit once and check off a list—it’s one you return to, confident that it will be as good, or perhaps even better, than you remember.
